  1. THE UTTER DARK - A black ink and black color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size coquille board. It appears in the book, "Hollow Faces, Merciless Moons," by William Scott Home, published by Ganley, 1977.

Way back in time most people on earth believed in a link between the spirit of man and that of animals, and they created religions for themselves that incorporated their beliefs, which is evident in the hieroglyphic art of ancient Egypt, as one example.

Today there are still pockets of humanity keeping those beliefs active, they can be found in places like the jungles along the Amazon river, New Guinea, and remote parts of Africa.

The best writers of horror stories incorporate some of those weird religious traditions in their stories, which gives them a feeling of authenticity, makes the strange horror more effective.

The author of these strange tales is one of those writers who is educated in the ways of those ancient religions, and uses them effectively in this book.
